Jay Bellers-Smith

In 2002 and stepping up to race 125cc bikes Jay participated in his first Aberdare Park Road Race finishing 7th, up against the likes of Robert Dunlop, Ian Lougher and Derek Welch.

2003 and Jay was racing 125cc and 600cc motorcycles all over the UK but always managed his regular pilgrimage at the end of July to race "Aberscare!"

A wet meeting in 2003 saw Jay win 2 Welsh king of the single races beating Park specialist and road racing legend Ian Lougher. Jay, on his second outing racing a 600cc ,  managed to finish second to Ian Lougher beating Pontypool’s very own Jason Griffiths.

This result cemented Jay’s reputation as an Aberdare Park front runner!

2004/2005 Jay was taken off due to injury at NW200.

2006 Jay won heats in the King of the Singles and the 600cc Park Challenge races beating Ryan Farquar.

2007 Jay won the 600cc and Open Heats and finished 3rd in the Welsh Open Final.

2008 Jay won the 600cc Park Challenge Final on the Saturday and was leading the Welsh Open by 11 seconds only to be denied the win due to a broken chain. At this meeting Jay also  raced Simon Harris' Yamaha TZ250 and Greg Lawtons Minarelli 50

2009 Jay started racing Mick and Gary Smiths’ Honda Simoto 450 beating William Dunlop in the Welsh King of the Singles final on Sunday.

2010/2011 Jay won the King of the Singles Championship and the 600 park challenge heats.

2012 Jay won the Welsh King Of the Singles Championship and finished second overall in the Welsh Open (450)

2013 Jay achieved the same success as in 2012 but was also 3rd overall on the 450 in the Welsh Open.

2014 On Saturday Jay achieved two second places in the formula 400 to Alastair Howarth and a 4th and 5th in the 600 Park Challenge. On Sunday he set a new Formula 400 lap record (450) before crashing out in spectacular fashion!

At age 11 Jay saw an advert in Motor Cycle News for a Cagiva Prima 80cc junior road racer. Jay then hassled his parents for the next ten months until Howard gave in and contacted the number in MCN to discover the bike was still for sale.

Howard purchased the Ex “Ben Wilson” (British Super Bike rider) Cagiva off another Ex-BSB champion “Terry Rymer.”

In the year 2000 Jay completed numerous laps of Pembrey Go kart Circuit (due to age Jay wasn't allowed on the big circuit!)

Then Howard entered Jay into his first Road race meeting at Three Sisters circuit in Wigan.

Jay’s first result was 4th out of a field of 16 JRA (Junior Road Racing Championship) riders. Jay Finished 4th (again!) in the JRA championship that year. (2000)

After 2 full years of racing Jay acquired his Clubman’s licence and discovered that the Aberdare Park Road Races were on his doorstep!

This is where Jay’s love for Aberdare Park began!

Due to Jay’s age and license he could not compete until former member Huw (Jock) approved. He agreed that Jay was good enough to race after witnessing some of Jay’s performances at Darley Moor circuit.
