Help Us Shape the Future of Aberdare Park Road Races

Updated: 1 hour ago

We're looking for passionate people to join our team!

The Aberdare Park Road Races have enjoyed some fantastic years recently, both on and off the track.

The quality of racing continues to attract teams and riders from all over  the UK & beyond, while the event's profile has grown significantly through increased local and international media coverage as well as a growing network of commercial partners.

As the event continues to develop, we're now looking to strengthen the team behind the scenes and bring in a small number of passionate people who can help us make the most of the opportunities ahead.

We're particularly interested in people who can contribute to community initiatives, commercial development, external events, race week setup, officiating as well as media and marketing.

Community

The local community has always been an important part of the Aberdare Park Road Races.

We're proud that an event with a history stretching back to 1950 continues to bring thousands of visitors into Aberdare and the surrounding area. The event has also been shown to generate more than £250,000 for the local economy, with that impact continuing to grow as the races attract greater numbers of spectators, riders, teams and visitors.

We want to make sure that the benefits of that growth are felt across the Cynon Valley.

We're keen to develop stronger links with local charities, community groups, schools, businesses and other organisations, creating opportunities to work together and introduce more people to what Aberdare Park has to offer.

That could mean supporting local initiatives, developing community projects, encouraging young people to get involved, creating opportunities for local businesses or simply finding new ways for the races to play a positive role within the wider community.

We're looking for passionate people who can help us build those relationships and identify opportunities that perhaps haven't been explored before.

Aberdare Park is much more than a race meeting. It's an event rooted in its community, and we want that connection to become even stronger as the event continues to grow.

Commercial & Sponsorship

We're looking for people who can help develop our existing commercial activity and identify new sponsorship and partnership opportunities.

This could involve approaching potential sponsors, developing relationships with local and national businesses, helping to create new commercial packages or simply bringing useful contacts and ideas to the table.

There are also opportunities to explore new and exciting commercial ventures away from the race weekend, creating additional opportunities for sponsors and partners to get involved with Aberdare Park Road Races throughout the year.

External Events

Aberdare Park Road Races is traditionally centred around our annual race weekend, but we're keen to explore new opportunities to create a stronger presence throughout the year. This could include sponsor and partner events, launches, appearances, networking opportunities and other projects that complement the main event.

We're looking for people with experience or an interest in event organisation, networking and project management who can help us explore and develop new opportunities.

There's plenty of scope to develop ideas, and we're open to seeing where they could lead.

Race Week Preparation and Setup

We're looking for volunteers who would like to get involved with the preparation and build-up of the Park ahead of race weekend.

From setting up safety equipment and infrastructure to helping with the many jobs required behind the scenes, it's a great way to get closer to the event and become part of the team that makes the racing possible.

Assistant Clerk of the Course

We're also keen to hear from people who would be interested in developing their involvement in the organisation of the races and potentially progressing towards an Assistant Clerk of the Course role. Working alongside our experienced officials, this would provide an opportunity to learn more about the running and organisation of a road race meeting and play a more active role in the safe and professional delivery of the event.

Media & Marketing

Our media presence has grown considerably over recent years, and we're keen to continue building on that progress.

Whether it’s during the race weekend, or throughout the year we're on the lookout for people with skills or experience in areas such as social media, graphic design, journalism and content creation, public relations, digital marketing, website content or video production.

Who are we looking for?

You don't need to have years of experience or a particular qualification.

We're simply looking for people who are reliable, enthusiastic and willing to get involved, with skills, experience or contacts that could benefit Aberdare Park Road Races.

We're particularly interested in people who can contribute throughout the year, rather than purely during race weekend as the event continues to grow.

The last few years have shown just how much potential there is around the Aberdare Park Road Races. We're now looking to build on that progress by developing the team behind the event and making the most of the opportunities that are becoming available.

There is no rigid job description and we're not expecting volunteers to take on huge workloads. Instead, we're looking to bring together a small group of people with different skills and interests who can work alongside the existing team and help develop specific areas.

If you think you could bring something to the Aberdare Park Road Races, we'd love to hear from you.
